For most wholesalers it is my understanding that you need a state tax id and business name? Is this what I need and how do I go about it?
To the best of my knowledge, only brick and mortar stores need to have documents to do business. If you have both, a website, (or selling on Ebay, Amazon, etc..), and a store location, then yes, you’ll need these documents. If you’re only selling on a website from your home, then these documents are not needed. You are, however, required to report them to your state and federal tax authority. Your wholesale supplier, may require you to get a DBA documents (Doing Business As), which you get from your city or county hall of records.

For my business I had to have a business name and tax number.
Most wholesalers will have to have your tax id number in order to sell wholesale to you.
